Once upon a time, during Essence Festival, I performed for a hair show. There were different vendors and radio personalities, including this one funny girl, Brandi. I quickly found out that we shared views on men and their random behaviors (lol) as well as trying to where skin-tight clothes in our slim frames lol! Fast-forward several months and I am interviewing this CEO magazine-creator and editor, tech girl, wife, mom, and fashionista for my podcast! She is so energetic and kind but focused and on her shit! She's down for her man and her family, but has not lost sight of who she is and the substance she brings to the table.

Listen in to her episode and read more of her bio below!

CHEF SYRENA'S SITE

Wow! I really enjoyed speaking with Chef Syrena Johnson for this episode. She's down-to-earth and open about her love for cooking as well as the real stresses of being HCIC (head chef in charge)! At the end of the episode, we also discussed the John Besh debacle, which as you may know, he was instrumental in the start and journey of her career. Chef Syrena did not hesitate to give her thoughts on the sexual harassment allegations involving Besh's company and the claim made against him personally.

Chef Syrena, however, appears focused on taking care of her staff and continuing to help them become better everyday while making a living as cooks. Her name has made national news on several platforms given her amazing story of survival and MAJOR comeback after Hurricane Katrina. Visit her website to learn more about her and her amazing work in and out of the kitchen, especially how she gives back to local students in the community and those who work under her leadership. Read more below about her accomplishments! Her site is https://www.chefsyrenajohnson.com/.

Robin says it best: "The smile you give when you realize the magnitude of the blessing that God has coming your way. You can achieve anything that you put your mind to. According to statistics, I was not even supposed to graduate from HS being that I was a teen mom and neither of my parents had HS diplomas. Two college degrees later and a growing media empire, I'm here to tell you anything is possible with God leading the way! Plus having the right mindset. Stay tuned, this story is still being written!"

From Sage:
"To My Women:

The roads of your journey won't be easy. It won't be pretty or glamorous. A times, it will be demeaning and hurtful. It will be chaos. But, the special thing about this journey is that it is all your own. Own. It. Own you: past, present and future. You are what makes your journey worthwhile and who you will become in the process will make the journey even better. So, let's celebrate all that you are, all that you are not, and all that you will become. Be the Boss and be BOSSY. Your journey is about you. Here's a little piece of my journey, and a moment of celebration for you.

They ain't seen shit yet.

We are all flowers waiting and working to bloom. "

Shanize: "Is it OK to curse"? lol....

Arielle: "Girl, yeah."
We had a great conversation for quite some time on everything under the sun, especially issues of interests on black community (everyone's community) issues. People may not think that 2 young women can go on chatting about racism for as long as we did, or throw in some Cardi B, Jay-Z, Insecure, and needed educational restructuring all in one sit down! But, they don't know Shanize yet apparently!

Her passion for social issues is real and rooted and she inspires me to stay abreast of what is going on. She is a community organizer as well as educator who works with youth all the way to "seasoned citizens" on not only rallying together but on creating plans and proposals to impact some minds, especially those of decision-makers in power positions.

We talk about women taking on burdens that do not belong to us, music that she keeps in rotation, respecting your elders, and why money is the real reason for the season. Don't miss this hilarious and heartfelt conversation! Airing on Say it With Your Breasts: Episode 5!
